MUMBAI: Fake Facebook accounts in the names of MNS chief Raj Thackeray's daughter Urvaishi and son Amit were blocked on Saturday. Thackeray had lodged complaints with the police over the fake accounts.
"We blocked the accounts and are investigating. We are yet to trace the Internet Protocol (IP) address from where the accounts originated," said Niket Kaushik, additional commissioner of police, crime branch. An MNS member drew Thackeray's attention to objectionable content relating to Dr B R Ambedkar posted on the account in Amit's name, a source said.
MNS sources said the fake account in Urvashi's name had a comment on the day Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray passed away. The comment asked whether it was time for the Sena and MNS to join hands. It is learnt that a private photo showing Sena CEO Uddhav Thackeray nursing his father at Matoshree was also posted.
"We have written to the Computer Emergency Response Team about the fake accounts. We are taking their help and will soon trace the IP address," said a police official. The police have not yet registered an FIR.
